What is Water and Wine?

Water and Wine is a simple blog by me, Joshua Beck. Here I post reflections on Christian theology, ethics, and scripture.

The most common posts at this point are probably going to be meditations on the lectionary readings for the week. Miscellaneous essays and the occasional sermon are also in the mix.

The title of this blog is a reference to the Mass, which uses those two elements to celebrate the divinity and humanity of Christ, and our sharing in them. And the Griffin, the logo for the site, is a classic Christian symbol representing the same reality.

About Me

I currently work as a hospital chaplain. I have earned two master's degrees—one in philosophy and one in theology.

As far as my theological perspective goes, it's largely developed from the two spiritual worlds that have been most influential in my life.

I grew up Pentecostal, and still feel a kind of affinity for the Pentecostal commitment to the life, and continual renewal, of the Spirit. So you'll probably see bits of that Pentecostalism bleed through my writing.

I am now, though, wholeheartedly Catholic. I am an Independent Catholic in the Old Catholic tradition, and am the Director of Christian Education in my parish.
